Third Grade News

 

Third grade is very thankful for the many gifts God has given us.

 

In Religion we began our new unit on Faith in God.  We are learning how our faith grows and how we live our faith. All the classes researched their patron saints, wrote a report, and made a doll portraying their saint.  We will be learning the Apostles’ Creed.  Our students will be reflecting on the many blessings of family and friends. In Math all the grades are finishing estimation of sums and differences.  We will begin addition and subtraction of three-digit numbers and addition of three or more addends.  We are working hard on problem solving. Please practice your addition and subtraction facts!  Grades 3B and 3W had an exciting experience working on an online collaborative project through www.jenuinetech.com.  We estimated how many seeds were in a pumpkin. We learned how to use new technology using VoiceThread and recorded our findings. We also shared our class photos through BubbleShare. Click below to view them:

In Language Arts we are beginning our new unit on writing stories.  We are learning how to write a good topic sentence and detail sentences with a clear beginning, middle, and end.  We can’t wait to share our stories. 

In Reading we will be working on vocabulary building and expressive language.

 

In Science our next unit will cover the sun and its family.  We will learn about day and night and the different phases of the moon.  We will study the relationship between the earth, the sun, and the seasons.

 

In Social Studies we started our study of government.  We were very excited to be able to vote in the mock election.  We are able to read a grid map.  Next we will move on to citizenship.
