November Tidings

The Church specially prays for all of the faithfully departed during November. This month also marks the end of the liturgical year, which ends on the Feast of Christ the King (November 23). On November 30, we begin the season of Advent. In addition, Catholics in North America also focus on things that we are grateful to God for because of Thanksgiving.

The Seventh Grade will continue learning about Jesus as the light of the world and how the sacraments of the Church help us to imitate Him as the light. We will continue to build connections between the gospels and our lives through our daily work and in our weekly scripture reflections. The change in the liturgical calendar means that instead of reading gospels from Matthew on at Sunday Mass, the gospel readings will mostly be from the gospels of Mark and John.

The  Sixth Grade will continue with our lessons about the Old Testament. We finished October by beginning the story of the Exodus; in November, the story continues with the people of Israel living in the desert for forty years and their eventual entrance into the Promised Land. Then we will learn about the Judges and about how the Kingdom of Israel started (which means that we will finally get to read about King David—something that the sixth grade has been anticipating with excitement).

I look forward to an interesting and faith-filled month. God bless you.
