Wireless,
Interactive Boards, and
Closed Circuit TV's at Saint Augustine School.
Saint
Augustine
School
now with its 28
wireless laptop computers
on a cart, along with classroom computers, and the
computer lab with 28
computers
enhances the writing process and communication.
The
faculty and staff participated in a Power School Workshop in
which the teachers learned how to take attendance and complete
grading electronically. The
goal is to have grades posted so that parents in the future
can view them.
The
faculty and staff were trained in the use of Kidspiration and
Inspiration and how to integrate wireless technology into
writing across the curriculum. The staff and students are very
excited about Power-School and the use of these programs. The
Middle School teachers each have a lap-top to use at home for
planning. Needless to say, they leave and come back to school
with big
smiles on their faces waiting to greet their students with
new interactive lessons.
The
Interactive
White Boards are perhaps the most exciting tool used in the
classrooms.
Students
are amazed by the ability to touch the board, move objects,
and view video clips, connect to a website, or post their own
writing. Using the “magic” pens also keeps their interest
as the teacher writes notes, and aids in the writing process.
The students are able to work individually
and or with the entire
class. They create
and/or reconstruct
templates that are available. Through hands on activities
and manipulation of the information on the white board the students
are fully
involved in the learning process. They can learn immediately
from their mistakes and are able to manipulate information
easily and rapidly. It’s great because it is about
process and yes
product. Students are enabled to have class notes
available to them immediately. If
a student is absent he/she can easily
connect to the instruction of the day as if it were
happening at that very moment in their own home. It is our
belief that being so actively involved in learning will motivate
and challenge
our students. We
look forward to a change in an attitude
toward learning and will
encourage independent study and exploration.
Home work will definitely engage students expanding the
concept of learning to reach beyond the boundaries of the
classroom.
