Reading
We are focusing on the reading skills of predicting, inferencing, drawing conclusions, and sequence of events. The genre that we are focusing on is mystery. As students read they are taking the clues that the author leaves to see if they can figure out the story before it ends. We are also learning how to use context clues to understand word meanings.

Click to link to website for practice using context clues.

Writing
Students will be writing their own end to a mystery story. We will stop reading, and the students will take all of the clues that they have gathered up until that point. They will then write an ending to the story based on all the information that was gathered.

Grammar
We are looking at different types of sentences: simple, compound, and complex. Students are learning how to identify each type of sentence and use it in their writing.
