Welcome to Mrs. Haggerty’s Web Page!

Algebra Class:
We will soon be finishing Chapter 3 on algebraic concepts and simple equations.   The students are learning how to change a word problem into an algebraic equation and they are realizing how difficult that can be.  They must keep practicing until they can do it easily.   They have also been solving 2-step equations by combining like terms and using the distributive property.  This will be especially important in the future when they have to factor polynomials.

We will soon be beginning Chapter 4 which will be solving equations and inequalities.  They will be learning how to use graphs to solve and check equations.   I am also hoping to put together a chapter project on using formulas for physical fitness and health.  They will need to work with equations and inequalities that allow for differences in weight, height, and age.  Then finally they will design an exercise plan for themselves.

8th Grade General Math:
We have been very busy working with rational and irrational numbers.    Students learned how to find the missing side of a right triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem and how to graph points on the coordinate plane.  They have also learned about translations, rotations, reflections, and symmetry.  We completed this section with a project on tessellations.  Following Tessellations the class focus will be on geometry and measurement.

7th Grade Math:
7th grade has finished their unit on scale drawings, unit rates and proportions.  They have also completed factors and exponents.  We will be continuing some fraction work with various operations as well as decimals. Following that, we will move into our geometry unit.

8th Grade Religion – 8B:
Congratulations to all the 8th graders on passing Father Bob’s Confirmation test.  I am extremely proud of all of them, even our non-Catholics who did extremely well.  The saint projects were completed on time and done well.  Some of the oral projects were done in a unique and interesting way.  Thank you to those who made that extra effort.
