** ACTION ALERTS **

Action Alert: Ask the Legislature to Protect the Religious Employers Exemption

The New Jersey Catholic Conference has issued an Action Alert regarding bill S3804/A5508 in the state legislature. S3804/A5508 is part of a package of bills that the Governor and the legislature are supporting to create a New Jersey version of the federal Affordable Care and Patient Protection Act of 2010. Unfortunately, the bills would expand insurance coverage for abortion inducing drugs and eliminate the religious employers’ exemption contained in New Jersey law. If the exemption is eliminated, our Catholic parishes and schools would be forced to provide insurance coverage for abortion inducing drugs.

The bills are on a fast track and soon will be scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Please contact your legislators and ask that they protect the religious employers’ exemption contained in current State law.

Action Alert: Increasing Nonpublic Funding in the 2020 Education Budget

Update 5/23/19 - Senator Patrick Diegnan (D, District 18) and Assemblyman Daniel Benson (D, District 14) have agreed to submit requests for FY 2020 Budget modifications increasing the nonpublic nursing services funding from $97.00 per pupil to $125.00 per pupil. Please call or write to them and thank them for their support. Contact information is listed in the links below.

The New Jersey Catholic Conference issued an Action Alert urging everyone to contact your State Legislators and ask them to provide specific increases in nonpublic school funding for transportation, nursing, and Compensatory Education in the Fiscal Year 2020 State Education Budget.
