Fourth Grade News

Math ~ Multiplication and division facts is the main focus during the month of November.  The students will also identify the appropriate operation needed to solve word problems.  As always, they are looking for reasonable solution to the problems.

Science ~ Students made edible plant and animal cells completed with a key to label the organelles. Students did an excellent job on their cell projects. Pictured here are this years winners of the cell project from left to right: Chris G., Samuel G., Ethan S., and Caleigh V.

Pictured left are Ivan Y., Josh P., Adrianna M. and Jalen N. watching the raisins dance. We have been extremely busy performing our weekly experiments.  In the Dancing Raisins experiment raisins were placed in a cup of seltzer and we watched them go up and down on their own. Pictured right is Jalen N. holding the balloon as Miss Halsey holds the lighted match underneath the balloon. This experiment is called Fireproof Balloon. Students learned that a balloon with water in it was not as flammable as a balloon without water inside.

Pictured left are Alfonso B., Jeremy M. and Kelsey K., watching the fizzing and foaming reaction from vinegar, water, baking soda, and laundry detergent. Our most recent experiment was when students stuck a push pin through the top of a balloon and it didn’t break where as the pin was stuck in the side of the balloon and the pin popped the balloon instantly.

Social Studies ~ Fourth Grade has started NJ and learned the 21 counties, the states that border NJ, and the bodies of water surrounding. We also experienced first hand what it was like to be part of the election. Students made campaign buttons for Election Day and learned the issues that went along with each candidate. Pictured here voting in the mock election is Alfonso B. left and Caleigh V. right.

Reading ~ The students have been working to improve their writing skills with the new program Road Map.  They will continue to practice in order to be ready for the writing test in May.  They will be reading some historical fiction this month and relating the stories to other events during that time.

Religion ~ Students are looking at the different types of prayers and writing original prayers of their own. They include prayers of forgiveness, thanksgiving, praise and request.  We have designed bumper stickers to help remind everyone of the importance of prayer.

Halloween ~ We had a great time at our Halloween Parade. Pictured left is Maddie G., Nolan J., and pictured right is Shria K. and Akaash P. working on their Halloween Box craft. Thank you to our class mother Mrs. Malvone for sharing her time and making the day so special.
